Tooused is a digital platform that enables users to dispose of their used clothes in a responsible and rewarding manner.


Startup Description

In today's fast-paced world, urban consumers, primarily from metropolitan areas, are increasingly indulging in fast-fashion consumption. This leads to rapidly changing wardrobes, resulting in an alarming amount of clothing being discarded. Statistically, India's metropolitan population, which accounts for over 300 million individuals, regularly updates their clothing items, contributing to a significant proportion of the textile waste. These discarded clothes, most of which are in wearable condition or require minimal mending, end up in landfills, exacerbating environmental concerns. To put it in perspective, textiles take years to decompose, and during their decomposition, they release methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Moreover, dyes and chemicals from these clothes can leach into the soil, polluting groundwater and harming ecosystems. Traditional traditional rag pickers and communities like Waghri, who have historically been involved in used clothes trading, find themselves marginalized in the urban setup. Their conventional methods don't align with today's digital-first approach, causing a disconnect between potential sellers of used clothing and these traders. the problem is multifaceted: an environmental challenge due to increasing textile waste, a consumer pain-point regarding the disposal of used clothing, and the marginalization of traditional used-clothes trading communities.
