Business model is commission from retailer which would be a fair fraction from his/her profit margin. A single region breaks even at ~2.5% market share (~370 orders/day). As we scale within city, expenses grow modestly while revenue compounds with density, improving regional profitability. Number of regions and market share in each region is directly proportional to Top-Line we make. On Larger scale, with SOM of 8B$ by 2030, Revenue potential would be 0.36B$

E-commerce marketplaces in India broadly fall into two branches: (1) HORIZONTAL MARKETPLACES (Indirect Competition) eg. Amazon India, Flipkart, and Meesho. (2) VERTICAL MARKETPLACES eg. Nykaa and FirstCry. OUR POSITIONING: A sub-branch of horizontal ecommerce (with local wedge), No Direct competition in our specific segment ADJACENT/HISTORICAL ATTEMPTS: Early quick-commerce players initially operated as horizontal local marketplaces but started with FMCG vertical, which introduced Operational challenges & poor unit economics which led them to pivot toward dark-store-led inventory models, moving them away from the horizontal marketplace model and out of our target segment.
Tell us a bit about how founding team knows each other.
Jagan (COO, Shopiful) was working with a mutual friend on a social media application. During MVP discussions, they reached out to Dhaya (CEO, Shopiful), who was then a Product Manager at Moonfrog Labs, SFG, for feedback on the business. That initial collaboration led to Dhaya mentoring the team on buyer and seller research to identify core problems in the ecommerce space, after which the team decided to formally work together. They later went on to build Shopiful, driven by firsthand exposure
Why did you decide to start this company?
Large TAM. Extensive Qualitative research on online, offline buyers & sellers led to exhaustive list of problems in Ecom space & then it was easier to derive value propositions, thus founding shopiful
