Product Description

Orvana is building a fresh-first meat brand, starting with naturally-fed broiler chicken designed for better taste, digestion, and overall food quality. Today, meat is optimized for cost, shelf life, and speed and not for how our body responds to it. This has led to increasing food intolerances, sensitivities, and reduced tolerance to everyday foods. One of the key overlooked factors is freshness. As meat ages, biochemical changes (including histamine formation) can impact how people feel after consumption. Orvana addresses this by combining: - Naturally-fed chickens (grains, greens, insects, herbs) - Slower growth (55+ days) for better texture and quality - Fresh processing only after order (no chilling, no storage) We deliver chicken that is cleaner, fresher, and closer to how it was meant to be consumed, without requiring customers to change their eating habits.

Startup Description

Orvana Foods Pvt. Ltd. is a Bangalore-based startup building a fresh food lifestyle brand focused on improving how everyday protein is produced and consumed. We are rethinking the system from the ground up, starting with chicken, by redesigning: - Feed quality - Rearing practices - Processing and delivery Instead of treating food as a commodity, Orvana focuses on how food impacts the human body, especially in the context of rising food intolerances and lifestyle-related health issues. We are building a neighbourhood-based fresh food platform, starting with broiler chicken and expanding into eggs, microgreens, and other proteins, creating a trusted, repeat-driven ecosystem for fresh consumption.

Business Model

Orvana operates a vertically integrated, fresh-first model designed for consistency, scalability, and repeat consumption. Supply: Controlled feeding + flexible bird (can be sold from 65 days to 100 days) Processing: Done only after order (no pre-cut inventory) Retail: Small neighbourhood stores + direct delivery Demand: Weekly repeat purchases (high-frequency category) Revenue is driven by daily consumption products like chicken and eggs, with add-ons like microgreens improving basket size. Each store targets a dense local catchment and becomes viable at ~50 orders/day, with strong profitability at 100+ orders/day. By eliminating storage and aligning production with demand, we reduce waste, improve freshness, and build stronger customer trust.

Business Modal Type

Orvana is a vertically integrated farm-to-consumer fresh food platform (D2C + retail), controlling the entire value chain from feed and farming to processing and distribution. Its made-to-order model delivers fresh, high-quality protein without storage or chilling, ensuring superior quality and efficiency. With strong backend supply control and neighborhood retail + direct delivery, the company drives better margins and customer trust. Focused on high-frequency categories like chicken and eggs, Orvana is building a scalable fresh food brand with strong unit economics.

Type of Sales

B2C, B2B

Competitors

- Local meat shops (fresh but inconsistent hygiene and sourcing) - Licious / FreshToHome (hygienic but dependent on chilled supply chains) - Nandu’s (organized retail but same chicken) - Country Chicken Company (taste-focused niche segment) - Large poultry brands like Suguna / Sneha (commodity suppliers) Each of these players solves only part of the problem—freshness, hygiene, or taste—but not all together. Orvana’s approach is different: we improve the product itself and deliver it fresh in a clean, structured retail environment, combining the strengths of all existing models.

Founder and CEO

Avala Aparna

Co-Founder and Nutrition Expert

Tell us a bit about how founding team knows each other.

Orvana is founded by a husband–wife team. When we got married, I was going through unresolved health issues, which led me to deeply explore food and its impact on the body. As I started building something in this space, Aparna joined in. With her nutrition background and my systems approach, what began as personal exploration evolved into Orvana.

Why did you decide to start this company?

I started Orvana with microgreens while working. We learnt it, needed full-time focus & wasn’t scalable. We shifted to improving broiler chicken, a weekly staple, making it fresher, better, & reliable

Are all the founders full-time on this project?

Yes
