Cavirk Business Model Cavirk is an AI-powered, multi-brand marketplace for premium handcrafted products, connecting artisans, boutique brands, and global buyers. Our mission is to reimagine the discovery of handcrafted heritage with authenticity, technology, and scale. We operate a two-sided marketplace: • Sellers (artisans, boutiques, curated brands) list products, manage inventory, and set prices. Cavirk provides visibility, logistics support, and AI-powered insights. • Customers access a curated, authentic catalog with personalized recommendations, storytelling, and multilingual assistance. Revenue Streams: 1. Commissions on transactions (Primary - 80% of the Revenue expected from here) 2. Subscription plans for sellers with premium features (Secondary). 3. Advertising & sponsored listings (Secondary). 4. Cross-border service fees for international sales (Future). 5. Advanced analytics packages (Future). Cavirk operates in a dynamic handcrafted retail space with players like FabIndia, Jaypore, Okhai, and Craftsvilla. • FabIndia is a heritage retail brand with strong offline presence, now moving digital. While it has scale and recognition, it is retail-heavy and less tech-first, offering limited personalization. • Jaypore (Aditya Birla Group) positions itself as a premium lifestyle brand with curated artisan products, but it operates largely as an inventory-led model with higher costs and limited scalability. • Okhai, backed by an NGO, is a purpose-driven D2C brand with strong storytelling and social impact. However, it lacks advanced tech capabilities and remains niche in scale. • Craftsvilla once rose as a large ethnic marketplace but suffered due to discount-driven positioning, and quality dilution. This led to brand fatigue and decline in market relevance. Cavirk’s Differentiation lies in being: • Marketplace-first (not single-brand D2C or inventory-heavy). • Premium + curated (avoiding Craftsvilla’s discount-driven pitfalls). • AI-first, offering personalization for buyers and analytics for sellers. • Global-local hybrid, curating both India’s handmade and international crafts. This positions Cavirk as a premium, tech-driven marketplace designed for sustainable scalability where authenticity, curation, and technology intersect.
Tell us a bit about how founding team knows each other.
We have known and worked with each other for the last 25 years, starting our journey as colleagues and then close friends in the year 2000. Bhanu Gupta and I have engaged in multiple leadership roles in HP and shared the same passion of creating a business at some point of time in our career. We decided to give shape to this passion in 2024 when I decided to move out of Google and form Cavirk, along with Bhanu.
Why did you decide to start this company?
Cavirk was born from my MIT & IIMB learnings in AI Strategy for Leadership, with a mission to empower India’s artisanal products and use AI to drive their growth and global go-to-market success.
