Electrosurgery is one of the disciplines in medical science where the use of high-frequency RF current waveforms cauterizes blood vessels, removing any requirement of physical clamping for Hemostasis. Electrosurgical vessel Sealers and generators are products that can use these waveforms to seal blood vessels effectively. Scissors are subsequently used for cutting the sealed tissue and double action graspers are used for grasping it. Our product has a specialized technology that we call E-Cision which can seal, cut, grasp and dissect tissues using the jaw geometry and this high frequency electric current, providing the functionality of 2-3 bipolar instruments in a single product. This is done by first sealing the tissue normally and then nibbling the sealed tissue to cut it using the phenomenon of electrical arcing between the tip of the jaws. This makes it possible to cut tissues up to 7mm diameter without requirement of scissors or physical effort. This also reduces the strain on the surgeon's hand as physical pressure does not play a major role in the sealing and cutting process. We also use biocompatible coatings like TiN and DLC for making the product non-stick and resistant to wear. This makes it possible to use our product longer without cleaning repeatedly.
Our company researches, designs, manufactures, assembles and tests all of these products and develops extremely innovative versions of them that solve multiple problems that our surgeon network communicates to us. Hence, we have a stronghold over the quality and design of our products. We have received ISO 13485 certification.
We have 3 main customer segments or revenue streams: *Indirect sales, where our customers are distributors and channel partners spread across all major states and regions in India. We have over 65 active distributors and 120 total distributors currently in our database that have purchased our products from us *Direct sales, which happen when hospitals or freelance surgeons directly buy from us. The margins are higher but the volume is quite low. It also requires a dedicated sales and service team to provide support to these direct customers which is otherwise taken care by the distributor during indirect sales *OEM, where we provide our product to a few other manufacturers that have presence in markets that we are not fully able to cover or Electrosurgical Unit manufacturers that bundle our instruments with their products and sell it to their distributors or customers We also have 2 upcoming revenue streams: *Tender and Public sector: We are in the process of GEM registration which requires approvals and certifications *Export: This again requires certifications and approvals like CE, US-FDA, etc.

We have the following main competitors: *Karl Storz Probably the most well established MNC to develop laparoscopic devices amongst other healthcare products. They have over 5500 products *Medtronic After acquiring Covidien in 2015, they now offer its wide range of laparoscopic products It operates in over 140 countries and has 100,000+ employees. 3. Günter Bissinger Medium sized publicly owned German medical manufacturer that specializes in manufacture of instruments for electrosurgery. 4. OM Surgicals: They are our closest competitor. They have a range of surgical instruments and laparoscopic devices. However, they have a much lower revenue per product compared to us. All of the competitors have a product that can only seal but not cut using their jaws. They require a separate cold blade to cut the tissue which gets stuck due to tissue debris filling up the mechanism and channels through which the blade passes, causing undue strain to the surgeon. Their products are also much more expensive and/or meant for infrequent use. This makes the per surgery cost very high when they are used. They are also developed as per the EU demography and market mainly, making them incompatible with a lot of local requirements in India.
Tell us a bit about how founding team knows each other.
All founders are friends or family
Why did you decide to start this company?
90% of medical devices are imported in India. Most of the core engineering students are changing shifting to IT jobs which makes the problem even worse. We saw a commercial and long-term opportunity.
Are all the founders full-time on this project?
Yes
